Outdoor furniture supplement the beauty and elegance of your home garden. Being a natural product, wood is considered to be the best material for constructing garden furniture. Since most timbers are not resistant to adverse weather conditions and insects, utmost care should be taken to stretch their lastingness. Here comes the prominence of teak wood as the ideal wood for making patio furniture. Teak is one of the best, long-lasting and strong materials used for indoor and outdoor furniture. Some of the specialties of teak as the most suitable wood for outdoor furniture, are given below.
1) Teak wood is good-looking, smooth, sturdy and durable.
2) It is resistant to bad weather and insects. A garden bench made of teak is capable of withstanding rain and sunlight for several years even without periodic maintenance.
3) Unlike furniture made of other materials, teak furniture don’t require artificial polishing or oiling.
4) Teak wood is rich with silica and natural oil content that make it resistant to all kinds of insects.
5) Teak is very suitable for structural works and carved designs for its sturdiness, elasticity and ease of use.
6) Teak wood does not get rotted or splintered even if it remains in contact with metals like iron for years due to the presence of silica and oil content.
7) The denseness of teak, together with its other qualities, makes it the favorite wood of shipbuilders throughout the world.
Because of its stylish design with clean lines, teak wood stands out among all timbers.
9) Cleaning and maintaining teak furniture is pretty easy.
The Teak tree is classed as Tectona Grandis and it belongs to the family Verbenaceae. One of the reasons for the high cost of teak is that it takes approximately 50 to 60 years to complete its physical growth. Despite its high cost and difficulty to acquire, teak is still the preferred wood for making high quality furniture, doors, windows etc. Although teak wood is immune to heat and humidity and resistant to insects, timely cleaning and maintenance will definitely prolong its life. The high cost and scarcity of teak have slowly given rise to the use of other hardwoods like African oak and mahogany in its place. But none of them matches the quality of teak.

Isnt nature grand? And what better way to enjoy nature than from the comfort of your own backyard patio. However, unless youre really into roughing it and you love the feel of gravel under your posterior, youre going to need to invest in some furniture for those quiet summer nights. Youre going to need some teak outdoor furniture.
Why teak? Teak furniture has gained quite a reputation for being sturdy and durable. Dont believe me? Check it out yourself. Did you know that one of the preferred materials for ship building years ago was teak? If its good enough to be sailing the high seas, its good enough for whatever weather your part of the world can throw at it.
Most of the wood used in teak furniture today comes from Indonesia and Thailand. These are tropical rainforest areas so the teak trees are grown and matured under varying environmental conditions. For this reason they have become resistant to harsh conditions and this carries through to your teak furniture.
In addition, teak furniture is more or less impervious to attack by insects and rot. This amazing property is due to the high concentrations of natural oils which repel insects, mold and fungi. These oils are present in both living and dead trees, so they are definitely present in your teak furniture. This is extremely good news for unfortunate homeowners who have shelled out lots of money on other wooden furniture only to have it collapse under them, literally.
Teak furniture is definitely considered the benchmark by which other outdoor wooden furniture is judged, and it is more expensive. Nonetheless, its rich, vibrant color, complete with swirling accents, adds to its appeal. There is a great diversity in teak furniture, with buyers able to locate teak chairs, teak tables, teak garden benches and teak garden borders to name a few.
There is one thing that you must be aware of though .while youll have your teak outdoor furniture for years to come, you will need to maintain it. One thing that no type of furniture, including teak furniture, can fight is the build-up of moss. This is unsightly and downright dangerous if it gets too slippery. Not to worry. Teak furniture can be easily cleaned with good old-fashioned soap and water. Thats about all you need to do with your teak outdoor furniture so maintenance is a breeze, and it looks great and it lasts a really long time.

When it comes to selecting Garden Furniture, or Patio Furniture, it is important to remember that it will probably be left outside in all weathers, so it must be able to stand up to extreme changes of temperatures. You may think that all Garden Furniture is built to last, but un-fortunately that is NOT the case. Buying cheap Garden Furniture is very often the most expensive choice! It will need to be replaced often! The old adage is also true, “you only get what you pay for”.
Having established that we are now NOT going to buy the cheapest that we can find, what should we do next? The first step is to decide what type of Garden Furniture that you like. This you can basically separate into two categories:
Metal Garden Furniture & Hardwood Garden Furniture.
Metal Garden Furniture
If you want Metal Garden Furniture, and you want it to last, then you should select Metal Garden Furniture that is ONLY made of Aluminium. The reason for this is that Aluminium does NOT RUST, so will last in all weather conditions. Having decided on Aluminium, you then must look at whether to go for “Cast Aluminium”, which is often solid and is made from Aluminium that has been Cast into a mould, or “Framed Aluminium”, which although lighter, is normally equally as durable. So if your preference is to have Metal Garden Furniture, selecting any type of quality Aluminium Garden Furniture, you will be sure of getting many years of use from your purchase.
Hardwood Garden Furniture
This is my favourite, because no two pieces are “exactly” the same. The differences in the grain makes each piece unique. It would take a whole book to completely cover “Wooden Garden Furniture”, because there are literally thousands of different options.
However after selling Garden Furniture for over ten years, my choice has narrowed right down to only one type, which is “Teak Garden Furniture”.
The reason for this is very simple, it is the BEST there is to withstand all types of weather, including the often rainy UK summer climate.
Although it is certainly more expensive that most other types of wood, it is VERY hard wearing and will last for many years, with (or without) any treatment, so really does justifies the higher price. Teak is a natural product, that is from a slow growing hard wood tree. So when you look to buy make sure that you select from a supplier that has Teak Garden Furniture that has been made from “Plantation Grown” Teak, which is a renewable resource, and not from a forest that is being destroyed by de-forestation. Quality Teak Garden Furniture should last for 20 -25 years, so when you compare the life of it, to the cost, it is extremely good value for money.

Starting in 1909, an Italian company called Dalmine started manufacturing seamless steel tubes on commercial basis making it accessible and affordable to the common man. Back then the times known as the Bauhaus era, it was a different concept. Designers believed in creating furniture that is light, durable and not so tight on the pocket. Materials like molded ply were popular, the times were great for masses.
Then in 1914, a Japanese company Nippon Kokan Kabushiki (NKK) started manufacturing steel tubes, and by 1954 we had two manufacturing companies in Latin America. The period in between is filled with evolutionsin Europe, in 1920s, an entrepreneur lady Charlotte Perriand took the first step towards incorporating modern material in furniture. It was her passion that made her to transform her bful garret-style Parisian apartment into a workshop, and she started to design and build metal tubular furniture from chrome and aluminum for a “machine age interior.
After about seven years, in 1927, she held a show at the Salon D’Automne. Her modern ideas and concepts were much admired; especially her rooftop bar design that drew much attention. After the show, Le Corbusier decided to hire her as a furniture designer for his Atelier. She designed furniture with human comfort in mind, some her popular designs being the slingback chair, the LC2 Grand Confort,, the LC2 Grand Confort and a chair for sleeping – B306 chaise lounge using tubular metal as supporting frame.
It was in 1926 that Mart Stam carried with him to a conference in Berlin a prototype of his model, the classic tubular metal Cantilever Chair. It inspired other furniture designers such as Mies Van der Rohe, Lilly Reich, Marcel Breuer, and Eileen Gray to devise their own cantilevers.
At the Chicago World’s Fair in 1933, there was an Exhibition displaying a large number of tubular steel furniture. Calling steel as a natural material, the exhibition inspired using steel, it being steel age, inviting people to join in the modern times. The Chicago and Grand Rapids Co. of Michigan, began producing large quantities of tubular steel furniture soon later. Donald Deskeys line of metal furniture was mass-produced around 1930 by the Ypsilanti Reed Furniture Co. A 1930 ad for the company pointed out that Ypsilanti Reed had pioneered steel furniture in America. In the USA, by 1933 the Howell Co. of Geneva in Illinois began mass-producing tubular steel furniture, including the best-selling “Beta,” a chrome-plated, tubular steel and upholstered chair, as well as other innovative chair forms, such as the “S” chairs, with their bent metal frames, that were produced and sold in high volume throughout the 1930s. Gilbert Rohde was among the first American innovators who worked with bent metal to create innovative furniture designs.
The Second World War witnessed many changes in design, followed by manufacturing units moving to US from Europe. Charles and Ray Eames, a team of husband wife are credited with developing innovative metal designs during 1940s and 1950s for the Herman Miller Co.
Times have evolved since. Some original tubular designs for modern homes can be witnessed in the making of Marshmallow sofa, Wassily Chair & Eileen Grey Table.

Here it is, the middle of summer, and someone mentions Back to School Furniture. How can that be when the temperature tops 100 degrees? But its true, while the kids are enjoying summer camps and parks, the school systems are planning for the next school year.
Now is the time for school administrators to be determining their needs for the next school year in relation to furniture and supplies. If you wait any longer, you may not be able to get the school furniture delivered in time to open the doors in the fall. With that in mind, here at the top 10 tips for School Furniture buying.
1.Order now, order early! This is the season and if you dont get your orders in now, your furniture may not arrive before the students. Remember, yours is not the only school needing new preschool or school furniture and planning to open within just a few short weeks. Dont wait so long your order is in the bottom of the pile.
2.Order quick ship colors & models. While you might just love that lime green classroom desk and chair set combination, do you have the time it takes for special orders? Another thought is how will you find 20 new matching sets, in five years, to that unique item when the time comes that more are needed. In the interest of simplicity and continuity, order stock colors and models. Their delivery cycle will be shorter and most likely they will be better priced.
3.Save on shipping charges by ordering items made by the same manufacturer. This seems obvious, but many school systems dont realize the saving they may have by buying multiple times from the same manufacturer. Not only will you save shipping charges, the items will coordinate with each other since they are from the same manufacturer and you may be able to get better pricing due to larger orders. Look for and do business with distributors that can offer you not only the standard school desks but also offers a wide range of products such as library furniture, activity tables, cafeteria tables, computer furniture, chalkboards, easels, room dividers and display cases. Make sure to look at the total picture when selecting a distributor. Being able to acquire many things from the same distributor saves shipping cost, time, money and headaches. The distributor is much more likely to provide superior customer service and order tracking if you place orders for multiple items.
4.Need freight special services? Inside delivery, call before delivery, liftgate? Think ahead, isnt that what we tell the students? This is also true when your furniture order is to be delivered. Make sure you and the delivery company have the same understanding of the delivery, time, place and circumstances. You do not want to be scrambling trying to get furniture onto a loading dock without the proper equipment. Not only do you risk damaging the new furniture, but also injury to your staff.
5.Inspect all cartons during delivery; dont wait until school is back in session. Dont assume anything. Take the time now, at the time of the delivery, to inspect the delivery cartons to make sure they are not damaged. If you wait until school is back in session to inspect the cartons and contents, and there is damage, you will not know when or how the damage occurred. By signing for the delivery, you are stating that the furniture was delivered properly and in good condition. If there is a problem, identify it at the delivery time and work towards appropriate resolution. The furniture company, delivery company and school will be much more satisfied with the end results.
6.Include summer delivery contact person & phone number. Not all schools are open every day all summer long. Make sure the order contains the contact information for the person responsible for receiving the furniture cartons. And by all means, let the responsible person know they will be contacted with delivery details, and that they are able to fulfill this obligation. See item 5 concerning the responsibility of the receiving person. It might be a good idea to have some staff available that can assist in the inspection of the cartons and contents so as not to delay the delivery company.
7.Call us for chair & table height suggestions. One size does not fit all when it comes to school furniture. Discuss what age group the school furniture is intended for when placing the initial order to make sure you are selecting the appropriate size of furniture. There is a wide variety of products available that are designed for specific ages and activities such as computer desks and activity tables. Mistakes will be costly in time and money if the wrong size furniture is ordered.
8.Call us about space requirements or weight capacities. Is this furniture going to be stationary or moving around a multipurpose room? The intended use may impact the type, size and weight of furniture you should be considering for purchase. Measure twice, order once. It will save you time, money and frustration.
9.Spend new budget money now. Dont wait till the end of your fiscal year and then try to get something delivered and invoiced in time to meet your deadline. Think about what your needs are in relation to your budget money and submit your order early in the budget cycle. You are better assured of getting the furniture you want and need if ordered early.
10. Order age appropriate chairs and desks to insure students comfort. If a student is uncomfortable in their chair or desk, it will have a negative impact on their concentration and school performance. See item 7, and make sure the size of the furniture grows with the students. Feet not being able to touch the floor or knees hitting the underside of the desk make for unhappy uncomfortable students and poor attention.
Use these tips to help your school furniture vendor delight you with a positive experience for all involved. A little forethought goes a long way in the preparation for a successful school opening for the upcoming year.

Lawn furniture is a terrific addition to any yard, especially if its large. Simply put, lawn furniture consists of anything that you would find inside of your home. Realistically, you could recreate a living room right in your own back yard. A bench, which is one of the most popular types of lawn furniture, could be used as a sofa while other chairs strategically placed could surround a wooden centerpiece coffee table.
For the family who loves to dine outdoors following an afternoon barbeque, an umbrella covered table with matching chairs is the way to go. Protection from the sunlight is provided by the umbrella while the seating offers a comfortable place to enjoy lunch. Swings are equally popular among the nature lover who is content to enjoy all of the beauty that nature has to offer. From a bird trotting through the grass or a honey bee bouncing from one dandelion to the next, an outdoor swing can provide a front row seat.
In order to keep your lawn furniture polished and ready for use, there are a few tips that will make the art of cleaning much simpler.
Lawn Furniture Tip # 1
Many commercial cleaning products are designed to be used as furniture polish, but a number of individuals suffer from allergies and are sensitive to the harsh smell of such products. In addition to this, many parents are not comfortable using harsh cleaners around their children. A good substitute for cleaning your lawn furniture may include a wet rag with anti-bacterial dish washing liquid being applied just before scrubbing. Be sure to rinse the soap away after you are done for a shiny, polished look.
Lawn Furniture Tip # 2
Even outside, dirt and dust can be a problem. Rather than leaving your lawn furniture covered in natures gunk, take a sheet of bounce to remove any loose products. Dust is attracted to Bounce and will cling to it right away, but this will only work on material that is not stuck to the surface. Once you are through, toss the bounce in the garbage and be on your way.
Lawn Furniture Tip # 3
Planning a dinner under the stars to celebrate your fancy new lawn furniture? If so, several lit candles will add to the beauty. You could use either a regular or scented candle, but make sure to use a jarred product to avoid a problem with wax. Without the security of a jar or candle holder, this could be a real problem. Make sure to put out the candles after use and bring them back inside the home.

No apartment, home or office is complete without the right furniture. In fact, having the wrong furniture or no furniture at all can make a home feel like nothing more than a uninviting house. Great furniture can make a physician’s office a place of comfort and rest rather than a place for anxiety. Entertaining people in your home can be a pleasure if you have the right amount of good furntiture for people to enjoy.
Consider the space that you desire to fill with furniture. What kind of space is it? How full of furniture do you want the space to be? What is the atmosphere if the room you want to put furniture in? Or, better yet, consider what you want the atmosphere to be like for you and your guests once the decorating with furniture is completed. Are you hoping for a classy look and feel? Do you want your home to be comforting, restful, and inviting? Maybe you hope for a different feel in each of your rooms.
If you are looking for furniture for an office you should consider these same questions and others. What kind of people will be coming into your office? Do you need furniture suited for adults, children, or perhaps older adults? Will your guests be using the furniture for long periods of time or for just a few minutes? The kinds of furniture you purchase will vary greatly for your home or office based on your answer to these questions.
It is also important to consider your budget as you prepare to purchase something major like furniture. While it will never be cheap, you can look for ways to be careful with your money. Once you have determined a budget you can be sure to keep all of your purchases within that budget rather than adjusting your budget to fit the purchases you want. If your budget is limited perhaps you will have to consider purchasing one piece of furniture and leaving the rest for later. Or maybe you will choose to fill your space with a few pieces of more inexpensive furniture. You should make a list of the furniture you want in an order of priority so that you end up with the most important pieces first.
Take the time to shop around for the right furniture once your budget is determined. Look at several stores and be sure you like the furniture a lot before you purchase it. Choose pieces in basic colors that you can accent in several ways so that you will not get bored with the furniture easily.
Once you have purchased the right furniture for your home or office you can have a blast decorating your space and accenting your perfect furniture with new colors of paint or unique pieces of artwork. Make sure your furniture and your decor match your personality so that your space truly reflects you. Filling any home or office with new furniture can be fun and rewarding if you enjoy the process and stay within your budget.

Adirondack chairs can be made out of just about any wood or even plastic. So why choose cedar? Firstly, cedar is a naturally beautiful wood for many reasons (which we describe below), as well as being incredibly durable and versatile, which is why it is used to construct everything from siding to decks to furniture and even roofing shingles. The natural preservative oils and characteristic smell of cedar also make it very insect and rot resistant.
Cedar is not a very dense wood, making it one of the lightest softwoods available. Cedar also boasts an incredible thermal co-efficient. That means that the little tiny “air pockets” between the cells of the wood end up acting as an insulator when the wood is dry. If it is hot outside, for example, cedar will remain at a lower temperature than most other materials that conduct heat with more efficiency (e.g. other hardwoods, metals and some plastics). The result is a cooler chair to sit on. And don’t forget, because it is a lightweight wood it will be easier for you to move it around (and store it away) than a heavy hardwood chair.
Even though cedar is a lightweight wood you will not be sacrificing strength. It is a full 80% the strength of mighty OAK! That’s tough!
Cedar also has amazing dimensional stability. More simply put, cedar naturally tries to equalize its moisture content to match that of the air around it, like all woods. However, unlike many other woods, cedar does not expand or contract very much when it is absorbing or evaporating moisture. This is very important because while other harder, denser woods will tend to crack or warp from season to season, cedar tends not to crack or warp. If you live in an area where humidity levels can vary wildly between seasons, cedar is a must for you.
Cedar has a very low flame-spreading ratio and is low on the “smoke developed” scale when burning as well. This means that it doesn’t spread fire as fast nor produce as much smoke as some other types of wood.
Finally, cedar is very decay and weather resistant. If you leave the furniture outside you have the option of either staining it every year or two if you want to maintain its fresh new look, or allowing it to age gracefully into a beautiful silvery gray color. If you choose to leave cedar permanently outside through all of the seasons, every day, every month, every year, we highly recommend treating it to protect the furniture properly and greatly extend its natural life. After all, cedar is resistant to decay but is not impervious to it. No wood is impervious to natural aging. Staining cedar just gives it an extra durability edge against Mother Nature, especially if it is left in constant contact with the ground.
Good quality cedar outdoor furniture can be found many places on the internet. The best quality, however, is carried by the Iowa Adirondack Company. We invite you to stop by and take a look at the wide selection of some of the prettiest most well made Adirondack furniture online today.
