Decorating Your Outdoor Room(On The Cheap!)

Outdoor rooms are extremely popular these days, and not just amongst the rich and famous! You can squeeze an outdoor room in almost any space, and decorate it to match the style and mood of your home, inexpensively!

Any room needs furniture, and an outdoor room is no exception. However, much of the patio furniture on the market today is quite expensive. You can make inexpensive resin chairs work for you, however. There are new varieties with a texture to them that looks more like wood than their slick plastic counterparts did. Look for these! Also, the white Adirondack resin chairs sell at my local discount stores from $11 to $15, and look amazingly like the real painted wood chairs, especially from a distance. Dress up your new chairs with some cushions, and they will fit right in to any dcor! You can also now spray paint those chairs with a new paint from Krylon called Fusion. Pick it up for about $4 and customize cheap plastic chairs. (Hint: Look at garage sales for used ones you can repaint!)

Once you have your furniture in place, time to think privacy. Hopefully, you are protected on at least one side by a wall, fence, or building. A great way to offer yourself some more private moments is to use a trellis as an extra wall, and plant fast growing vines at its base. You can anchor the trellis in a planter to make a moveable wall. Morning glories, scarlet runner beans, and moonflower will all cover your new wall in no time!

If your outdoor room is protected in part from the weather, fabric curtains can be used outdoors as well. I suggest using cheap flat sheets and either a staple gun or a grommet kit. Cheap muslin can work as well, and is so inexpensive it can just be replaced the next year! This is a great technique for the end of a porch or deck, and can help control the sun as well. Be sure to use tiebacks for those times you want to let the breezes blow through.

Lighting is so often overlooked in outdoor rooms because of its expensive nature, but this doesnt have to be the case. Candles and torches are wonderful for outdoor meals, and solar lights can be used for safety, without the expense of electrical installation. Strings of clear holiday lights are magical wrapped around a tree, or over a porch beam. Luminerias can be created with recycled cans and a punch tool, then drop a candle inside.

Finally, dont forget accessories to add charm and style to your outdoor rooms! Pick up some unfinished bird houses at the craft store, and decorate them with paint, then hang in a group on the garden fence or wall. Use scrap lumber to paint signs for your garden room with inspirational sayings, or words. Use your hand tools as dcor items and hang them on the fence or wall. Lean an old picket fence against the porch wall,( or a new one, you can get a premade picket fence piece for around $8 at the home improvement center!) then place planters of flowers in front of it. Add cut flowers in pretty pitchers and bowls from the kitchen, pick up candles at the dollar shop, and lay out a fabric napkin or two as an impromptu tablecloth.

Any way you do it, an outdoor room is worth having in any home, and with a little creative thinking can be decorated with style, comfort, and the spirit of the seasons which coax us out of doors.

A Tutorial To Pumps

Pumps are amazing mechanical devices and an important invention. They are used to move gas or liquid from one pressure are to another pressure area. They are used in a variety of ways from providing water to providing heat to providing energy. Pumps have been around since the 3rd century and are still going strong today.

There are two main categories of pumps: positive displacement pumps and dynamic pumps. Positive displacement pumps have little leakage as they used sealed chambers to force the fluid or gas. Dynamic pumps use momentum to move the fluid or gas and the chambers are not sealed. In these two categories there are various types of pumps.

The following list explains the different types of pumps most commonly found in residential and industrial settings. These are a good representation of the many styles and models of pumps that are manufactured. Most pumps are made for a specific use and that is represented in this list as well.

- A centrifugal pump can handle a large load. They are used most often with oil or chemical processing. They have an impeller that forces the liquid or gas into a rotary motion. This rotary motion cause pressure to build.

- Electromagnetic pumps are made to move liquid sodium and potassium. They are used in the cooling systems of nuclear reactors. These pumps use electrical conductors and magnetic pipes.

- Jet Pumps use high velocity to move fluid. They require a jet of steam or water to carry the fluid through it. The jet pressure makes a vacuum that sucks more fluid. They are so powerful that they are most often used to move water from deep wells.

- A screw pump is also called a positive displacement pump. It is a widely used pump because it does not form clumps when pumping solids and keeps a constant speed.

These four pump types only represent a portion of the pumps on the market. They are, however, the most popular models.

Pumps are found in many environments. They range from industrial plants to a home water system. The way a pump works depends largely on the category of pump it is and the type of pump it is. The use is then based on these factors. All pumps work under the same principles, though. Pumps use pressure to move liquid or gas to a different location.

Choosing an area rug is quite a challenge considering the vast sizes, shapes, colors, fabrics, and designs. You must consider the purpose the rug will serve whether it will provide a splash of color/design for a small room or a great deal of color/design for a large space. If youre fortunate enough to be able to start with a blank palette, then you can choose a rug that pleases you and build the room around its colors and designs. But if you already have furniture that you want to compliment, then choosing the right rug is an important addition to draw your eye and yet make a subtle statement while uniting the elements of a room. Take into account your style and what types of rugs you admire in others homes and in stores that sell rugs. The color, style, and texture of your rugs will show your guests what feel you want to convey. Lighter rugs make the room seem cooler and larger while darker shades warm the room and form a cozy more intimate space.

Now that youve decided what look you want, you must decide on the fabric that suits the use of the room. Wool rugs are hugely attractive but can be difficult to clean if used in extremely high traffic areas. They are long-wearing, lush, and command respect and admiration so should be chosen for those areas where people sit and relax and in dining areas that are of a more formal nature. Spills on wool rugs are not a problem if they are blotted up quickly; wool rugs repel dirt and liquids not allowing them to absorb quickly into the fibers. The scales of the fibers make wool fibers resilient, soft to the touch, and tough. Wool rugs also dye easier and richer making them a striking focal point. Another natural fiber is cotton that makes a longwearing rug much like wool but of a lighter weight.

Man-made fiber rugs are good choices for brilliant colors and great service in high traffic areas, areas of sun exposure, and areas of heavy use. They are strong and durable and easy to clean. The look of synthetic rugs is not as rich as wool rugs but is substantially more attractive today than they were in the past. There are many ways synthetic rugs are set and woven and many imitate wools overall look and feel. Many rugs combine synthetic fibers with natural fibers so read the descriptions carefully.

Much of the look and feel rests with the construction of the rug. Some of the modes of construction include hand-knotted, hand-hooked, hand-tufted, machine-made, and flat-weaved. There are others so you can see that this is not a simple choice. Any rug that has hand in its prefix will be high quality and a bit more expensive in most cases. But you get what you pay for, as you know.

About size, a great way to determine what size rug is best for your room, spread a bed sheet or butcher paper in the area and try different sizes. In dining areas, youll want a rug at least 4 feet longer and wider than your table, which would allow diners to push their chairs away from the table without slipping off the rug. In areas where the rugs will serve as a place for feet to rest while sitting in conversation areas, choose rugs that are at least as large as the open area in front of sofas and chairs. You can leave up to a foot right in front of the furniture because most people dont place their feet right up against the front of the couch or chair. You can let the size of the rug determine the size and intimacy of that area or you can place your conversation area/s as you wish and then order a rug to fit that space. A large room can have a cozy feeling by dividing it visually into sections you choose with an area rug or two. Keep these rugs from extending into high traffic areas to avoid tripping.

Of course, many rugs will be chosen to stop dirt from entering the main parts of the house. The foyer, back door, garage entry, and side porch doors are some of the examples of these entry points. Rugs for these areas should be fairly flat, absorbent, and easy to clean. Rug pads that are a non-skid type are a necessity for these areas for obvious reasons.

Rug pads can keep rugs from moving, avoid turning up at the corners, help them wear longer, and make them feel cushy under your feet. Shop carefully for the right pad for the rug youve chosen. The pad is no place to skimp on quality since the pad will influence so much about your new rug. Be sure the pad provides a firm, non-slip backing and a cushion that reflects your style. Decide if your rug will be on carpeting or bare floors and choose the pad that is correct for each by reading the descriptions carefully. Rug pads prolong the life of your rugs since rugs wear from the bottom up; the pads cushion the rug from the hard floor below.

So, you want to find the rugs that will reflect your personality and style while providing room definition, comfort, design elements to unite the rooms elements, and the designers touch every room can have. Choosing the right rug for each area can be daunting and use more time than you have. Unless, of course, you shop on line like I do. The running from store to store is a thing of the past. There is no way I could have perused the vast amount of rugs in stores that I was able to examine from my family room sofa with my laptop. As you search this site, youll get new ideas and begin to form images of the way your home will look with the addition of their beautiful, versatile rugs! Have fun looking for rugs for all the special areas of your home!

Buying Furniture at Yard Sales

Buying furniture pieces at yard sales offers many options, but you must look closely to know what youre getting.

Are you interested in trying your hand at some creative furniture painting? If you dont already have an old piece of furniture to practice on, shopping yard sales is the best way to come up with a piece.

If you are buying the yard sale furniture for the sake of practicing your creative idea, buy away! If you are looking for a particular piece to use, take time to look the furniture over to make sure you are getting a solid piece at a good deal.

For instance, if you want to buy a small dresser for a guest room and want to give it a country look, your first concern should be the stability of the furniture. You can give almost any style the look you want, as long as the furniture is sturdy and in good condition. Look to see if any of the wood is buckling or if the piece has any deep scratches that cant be sanded out. If you want it to have an old look, the scratches might not matter so much to you. The buckling, however, might be a sign of warped drawers that are hard to open or close. Warped furniture is not usually very functional.

If the furniture you are looking at is a sofa, loveseat or chair there are additional considerations you should keep in mind. Will you be using the furniture as it is or do you plan to give it a fresh coat of paint or some new fabric treatment? Does it look clean? Ask the seller if the furniture has been used recently in a home or if it has been in storage. If it has been stored, ask if the storage unit was climate controlled. If not, you may find yourself dealing with pest issues or mold down the line. Make sure you look the seating over good check out its frame, springs, cushions and the over all wear. If you think it is in good shape and can get a good deal, go for it!

If you are taking up furniture shopping through yard sales as a hobby, learn all you can about various types of furniture. The knowledge will help you separate a good deal from a great find. Plus, if you plan to recycle your yard sale findings, you dont want to strip and paint an antique, one of a kind headboard. When you know your furniture what is of special value and what is just a trash to treasure item you can save yourself the heartache associated with finding out the dresser you just painted a Dr. Seuss scene on was actually by a famous craftsman. Visit your local library to check out books on antique or unique furniture. Then, keep your eyes open when you are hitting the yard sales the following weekend youll know a good deal when you see one!

Discover The Wonders Of A Tempurpedic Mattress

How long have you owned the mattress you presently sleep on? Does it povide you with the quality of sleep you deserve? Do you ever wake up with any type of sleep soreness whatsoever, do you toss and turn or suffer from back pain? Have you ever heard of a Tempurpedic mattress? There are a number of reasons why people might be considering the feasibility of investing in a new sleep system. Maybe you’ve been considering it yourself for whatever reason.

If you have been or know someone who may be in the market for a new mattress, then a great place to start that comes very highly recommended is a company called Tempurpedic. They have literally revolutionized the sleep industry with their mattresses, pillows and mattress toppers made of viscoelastic memory foam material. To make a long story short, in the 70’s, NASA developed a memory foam material to relieve astronauts of the pressures of high levels of “G force” in which they had to endure. Tempur pedic, a Swedish sleep system company, proposed an idea to NASA years later, and were granted permission to bring something new to the sleep world. What came out of this was the Tempurpedic mattress. Because of them, there are millions of people now experiencing a new level of sleep quality night after night.

Many millions of dollars were spent researching and developing this visco elastic memory foam material, and it carries with it, a number of amazing features. For one, it’s viscoelastic properties, and for those who are not sure what that means, it simply has the ability to return to it’s original shape. For example, you apply a force with your hand to it and it will completely mould to every contour of your hand, but once you remove the force (your hand), it will return to it’s exact initial shape. It also carries with it, tempur sensitive qualities, which changes the firmness with varying tempuratures.

Below a certain tempurature, the mattress will become firmer, but your body heat will soften it where it needs to soften in order to relieve all pressure points in your body. Your body will sink into the Tempurpedic mattress evenly. So you guessed it, not only are they temperature sensitive, they are also pressure sensitive. Those are not the only qualities of a tempur pedic mattress. They are also energy absorbing, body conforming, durable, hypoallergenic and considered the most comfortable mattress in the world. Please do not take our word for it, go out and try one out for yourselves. After a decade of these mattresses being on the market, Tempur Pedic wanted to bring an even better product to the table and now introduces the new Nimble Pedic mattresses, claiming to have surpassed the tempurpedic mattress. I haven’t had the chance to try one out yet, but when I do, you’ll be the first to hear about it.

The Tempurpedic matress sleep system can be a little pricey, but when you consider all the time you spend in bed, and how much your life will improve due to a perfect sleep night after night, how can you deprive yourself of that? You may think you are achieving a perfect night’s sleep on your inner-spring mattress, try one of these Tempurpedic beds, and you will be almost sure to change your mind. But be careful, because many foam companies claim to make a top quality visco elastic foam mattress. The difference comes in the density of the foam. Tempurpedic foam has a density of approximately 5.3 lb/cu foot, as opposed to most competitors coming in at about 4 lb/cu foot. This makes a considerable difference in comfort, durability and body conforming quality levels.

I can go on all day about how great these mattresses are, and about how there is never a need to flip them, and how they have a skid proof bottom to prevent shifting and so much more they can offer you to take your sleep quality to levels you never thought were possible. However, nothing will be justified until you take one for a test drive, which will be your first step to achieving optimal sleep quality. You will ba amazed at the effect a quality night’s sleep will do for you, your mood, and the overall way you feel all day long.

Decorating Tips To Update Your Living Room: New Paint, A

Decorating Tips To Update Your Living Room: New Paint, A Fireplace Mantel And More

Your living room is the entertainment and living center of your home. Chances are that you’ve had some very memorable gatherings there, and it is where you relax and enjoy the company of family and friends. Because this room tends to be such a high traffic area, and to have so much time spent in it, it is often the first room to show signs of wear and tear and to begin to look dated. Luckily there are small changes (like switching out light bulbs) and big changes (like installing a new fireplace mantel) that can give your living room a new look and won’t turn into a major DIY project, or turn your home into a construction site.

Consider painting your living room. A splash of paint can brighten things up or give your living room a different vibe altogether. You can repaint your living room the same color which will refresh the color and get rid of any scuff marks and dings. If you decide to paint the entire room, starting from the ceiling and working down is a good idea. On the other hand, if you’d like a bit of a color change without covering everything in plastic, a feature wall could be an option for you. Picking an interesting color that goes well with the room but adds a little spice can be an excellent way to transform your living room in no time at all.

The fireplace is an often neglected area of many living rooms, and this is a pity because it can be such a lovely focal point if handled properly. Installing a new fireplace mantel either buying one for the first time or replacing an existing one does not take as much work as you think. If you don’t have a fireplace mantel, consider getting one as it will give your fireplace a more finished, polished look. If you have a fireplace mantel, replacing it with something a little different can have a major impact on your living room. A wood fireplace mantel is easy to install so you dont have to hire a contractor. You can paint or stain a wood mantel to match the dcor of your room. Fireplace mantels are excellent places to display items of importance to you and your family such as heirlooms and family pictures. A fireplace mantel is also an excellent place to hang stockings and display cards around Christmas time.

Changing the lighting in your room can also make a major difference. Different lampshades can create a different atmosphere as they diffuse soft light with a hint of color about the room. If you find your living room a little dull, adding a few more lamps can brighten it up, and also add accent to certain areas. For an even simpler modification, try changing the wattage of your existing bulbs. Going from 60 to 120 watts makes a big difference; you might see things you had forgotten were there at all! Changing to a lower wattage can create a cozier, intimate feel.

A little heavy lifting can change your living room; rearranging the furniture can create a totally different feeling in the room. Create a new focal point to the room by orienting the seating around the fireplace and not the television, or perhaps put the couches and chairs so that people are more encouraged to talk to one another. And dont just think about the seating, moving the coffee table, the end tables and bookcases can make a difference. If you need a new look without buying new furniture consider switching out the living room furniture with items from other rooms of the house

Finally, taking a look at what you have on display in your living room can give you some ideas for small changes that have a high impact. Do you have a vase of fake flowers that has been there for a decade? Perhaps now is a good time to replace it with something a little more modern. The artwork you have on your walls might also be due for some scrutiny too. Prints can be obtained fairly cheaply, and can really change the ambiance of your room. Remember that every little item and picture adds something to the room it is up to you to decide whether or not it should be changed out for something new.

Best Furniture Around – The Chaise Lounge

A home just like any other building is a physical structure where one may work or rest in. It is place that one can be alone with people he or she is comfortable with. A home is made of many things. It has a kitchen where one cooks food, a bedroom where one can rest, a living room where one can watch TV or read a magazine but the most important pieces that make it all possible is the furniture that is used to make that dream come to life. A very good example of furniture that adds both style and comfort to ones home is a chaise lounge. A chaise lounge is an upholstered reclining chair that has legs that are outstretched so one will be able not just to sit on the chair but also lie down on it to take a short nap.

1. Just Like Freud

This kind of furniture similar is very similar to a sofa and the nice thing about this chair compared to the normal chair is that it can seat 3 people at a given time unlike the regular chair where it can only seat one. The chaise lounge is usually seen in a psychiatrists office where a patient lies down and discusses his or her innermost thoughts with the doctor as the patient is being evaluated. At home, one can also use it to think about things that are on the persons mind.

2. Truly Great Relaxation

For those who want to get a tan or just read a book and watch the day go by, another ideal spot where one can use it in the home is in the patio or by the pool. The chaise lounge as pointed out can be used either indoor or outdoor. This has been used in a variety of places both private and public like the local country club or resort. Through the years, the chaise lounge has evolved. Some models are not upholstered anymore and are made of wood, steel and plastic. For mobility, wheels have been added on certain models that make it easy to transport or relocate. Since it is a reclining chair, one can now adjust the angle of how inclined one wants it to be.

3. Leather, Plastic, Wood?

Before one will go out and choose the right chaise lounge, one must ask if the chair one chooses to buy will require low or high maintenance. As mentioned earlier, such models are no longer just made out of wood. Plastic chairs require low maintenance. If it gets dirty, one can simply wash off the dirt and wipe it clean. Wood on the other hand would require a bit of maintenance since it takes a little work to keep the varnish intact and sparkling. This will require one to buy a spray and cloth to keep it in good condition. Steel chairs even those made out of aluminum could rust and requires high maintenance. If one should decide on an aluminum chair, one must make sure this model is be rust-proofed and kept out of the rain.

4. Budget

There are pros and cons in choosing what type of material one wants to buy a chaise lounge. Each has its own characteristic benefits and features at the same time have its own drawbacks. The last thing one needs to consider before buying is to check if it is within the persons budget. The price of the material used dictates the price of the kind of chaise lounge one can afford to buy. If one has a limited budget, one wont be able to buy one with the best material since it is expensive. However if one is rich and money is not a problem, one will be able to buy the best quality-made steel, wood or plastic chair available. The chaise lounge is available in the local furniture store. If one is lazy to go out, one can just log on the web since there are a lot of retailers who offer the same items online with prices and discounts that are both reasonable and competitive.
